What Are Some of the Industries in Which Steelwork Is Common?

Put simply, steelwork refers to the process of making or repairing things that are made out of steel. Many people don't realise just how common steelwork is, but the truth is that steelwork is a common and important part of a number of different industries. These are a few examples of industries in which steelwork are common, although steel is used across many other industries that are not named below as well.

Construction

One of the major industries that steelwork is commonly used in is the construction industry. You might have never thought of steel as being a popular building material for houses, but there are a surprising number of residential properties that are built out of steel.

Of course, steel is even more popular for those who are constructing either commercial or industrial buildings. This is because steel can be used to build very durable buildings -- in which you don't have to worry about issues like termites or wood rot -- for an affordable price.

Steel is used for other types of building projects, too. For example, nowadays, many bridges are built out of steel. Engineers, contractors and others who are involved in the construction industry in some form or fashion often work with companies that perform steelwork. Then, they can get help with their building projects, whether an entire structure is being built out of steel or if they just need some structural steelwork done.

Vehicle Manufacturing

Cars are made out of a variety of materials, but steel is often one of the most common components that is used for creating the frame. After all, steel can be relatively lightweight, which helps with vehicle performance and fuel efficiency, but it's also extremely strong and durable, which is important for the durability and safety of the vehicles that are made.

Ship Manufacturing

Just as vehicles are commonly made out of steel, ships often are as well. Steel can be used for making small boats, but it can also be used for making large cargo ships, cruise ships and more. Steel is an ideal choice because it can build durable ships that can be used for all different purposes and because certain types of steel -- or properly finished steel -- can withstand constant exposure to water and the elements.

As you can see, steelwork is done in a number of industries. In fact, these are just a few of many examples of ways that steel is used.
